The Spectrum Vision.

Just as light is a blend of colours, Steveston-London's Spectrum program is a blend of many elements of education.  For those students who are ready for more than just academics, Spectrum offers opportunities for enhancement of leadership skills, exploration of community service, as well as participation in a variety of outdoor and field experiences.

Independent study within a curricular framework allows students to pursue individual interests to enrich their academic experiences.

Challenging Academics.

The Steveston-London Spectrum Program encompasses the four core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies.  At each grade level, a team of teachers collaborates to provide a challenging and comprehensive program.

The scope of each of these core courses meets the Ministry prescribed level curricula while providing opportunities for academic enrichment.

A Community of Learners.

The classroom climate within Spectrum encourages the development of collaborative skills.  Opportunities to work in cooperative groups allow students to enhance both leadership and team-building skills through a variety of student-centered activities.

Individualized Learning Opportunities.

Independent projects and structured mentorship experiences provide Spectrum students one-of-a-kind opportunities to expand their knowledge and to explore topics of their own interest within the Humanities and Sciences.

Steveston-London is currently the only high school in Richmond that has a long-term mentorship project as part of its enriched program.

Personal Growth.

Aside from the opportunity to work with an exciting and engaged group of like-minded peers, the Spectrum program encourages the development of improved personal communication and public speaking abilities and the appreciation of one's role in the local and global community. Field-based educational experiences heighten appreciation for both the mind and body.

Check out what our students have to say!

I learned that if I try, I can succeed. You will be surprised at what you can accomoplish.

Spectrum showed me a new, stronger, more independent side of myself.  It made friendships stronger and I discovered traits about myself that I didn't know I had.

Although challenging, Strathcona was worth everything, and is something I learned a lot from and will always think about--always!

Spectrum provides a good mix of academic challenges as well as life skills and teaches you to be more independent and to work with others that you might not get a chance to work with.
